In the 1978 era, the race comprises of 35 checkpoints and is a total distance of 2500m. Another sharp turn, they are then back on the boardwalk, returning directly to the starting position. The player is then facing head-on traffic westbound towards the Beach Front Theme Park, where they make a sharp turn left and immediately right, into the park itself, cutting across grassland and over the go-kart circuit within the park. Another turn right, the course returns back onto the east section of boardwalk, before making another sharp turn down the off-ramps and back onto the streets. The race takes a sharp turn left down onto the streets before passing down the sidewalk. Starting on the beach itself, the player must deal with a short burst of low traction, shortly before traversing across the wooden beachfront boardwalk. The circuit starts and ends on the beach sands at the very southern point of Coney Island, passing across the beachfront boardwalk, the busy streets and the Beach Front Theme Park.
